A Day In The City

Yesterday we took a day off from running dogs and bee-lined to the city for some Christmas shopping. It needed to be done and the company was good - but I really don't remember how I survived when I used to live and work in the city.

I found this quote this morning which basically sums up how this now 'country bumpkin' sees cities.

"I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees.  The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets.  It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day.  It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful.  Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail; and when I hear the coyote wailing to the yellow dawn, my cares fall from me - I am happy. "

~Hamlin Garland, McClure's, February 1899

A day at the vet today (rabies vaccinations for 20 of the dogs) and then back to the trails tomorrow!!

Curious how the 20 dogs behaved getting their rabies shots. The dogs we have adopted from you are always so good at the vets - maybe a little whimper with those particular shots that sting a bit but never any arguing or trying to escape. The vets always comment on how good they are (they say "especially for Siberians") - oh, and of course they always comment on what Pretty Sled Dogs they are!
Thanks for raising/training them so well!

It's funny, i get that same thing said about my sibe (not from here)... I always get "she's so well behaved -- for a SIBE" And I always wonder what that means because she's my first sibe and i'm thinking "how bad can they be?" i know lots of sibes and i've never met a really bad one... mischivious, yes, but people/dog naughty? nope.

My husband and I have been blessed with three beautiful Sibs. They came to us for retirement; two were wheel dogs that ran together for years. We are so blessed to have them in our home, and everyone and everywhere we go people are in awe of then because they are so well behaved. Our vet is also very pleased with them and their behavior when they go in for check ups. I don’t understand why some people say bad things about this breed when they are so sweet and gentle.

Hope your visit to the vet turned out ok!

I feel the same way about city life vs. country /mountain life.....
As for the 20 dog vax clinic... we just did a bunch of ours and even though the vet came to our place we hooked the dogs along the droplines of the truck and just went down the line. I held the dog and the vet gave them their shot..we were done within minutes. All of the Siberians I have ever owned have all been good about getting shots....

LOL Pat. Actually, my vet was just commenting how good all my dogs - with very notable exception - are for exams and shots.
The 'notable exception' is KARA. She is a true drama queen (I know you are all SHOCKED!!!LOL) and must be MUZZLED for shots or blood work!!
