Once again it is your roving border collie reporter, Bet, here!
Trying to back fill all of the happenings of the 2014 Iditarod so you get a look and feel for how everything went and all of the stuffs and things that happen very quickly in the days leading up to the race.
I wanted to throw this picture in because it's really cool. The night before the Musher Meeting, the Canadian Embassy threw a shindig at the local Museum for all of the Canadian Mushers (and my Musher is one of them).
It's the Musher standing next to a gigantic raven! She LOVES ravens
Ok, it's not a REAL raven (thankfully). That thing is so huge it looks like it could carry me away in its talons or feety feets or whatever you call bird toes.
Speaking of ravens, you can still purchase the one of a kind, limited edition, drawn especially just for the musher original Jon Van Zyle (Alaska's artist) Race Fans print that features ravens in them on our blog, just go here.
The next day (27 February 2014) the official Musher Meeting was held at the Millennium Alaskan Hotel.
The Millennium Alaskan Hotel is where the official Iditarod Race Headquarters is situated with the nerve center located on the 4th floor.
The musher's meeting took place on the 3rd floor where the banquet areas are.
Here is the Musher walking down to the 3rd floor.
The Mushers all gather to do official types of things. They sign posters that will be used by the Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC) for fundraisers.
They get their pictures taken for their official stuffs (and things) and they do interviews, and then they go into the big room to hear about the trail, the rules, any news they need to know about that will happen on the trail.
Waaaaaay down that hallway is a musher being interviewed on camera by the ITC |
They also gave the mushers these cool long sleeve t-shirts
Only the mushers got these shirts, so they are very limited edition and also very very cool... and the Musher wants one of you to have one, so we're auctioning hers off, and she signed it for you.
The auction is open until March 21st, you can go here to find out how you can bid on it.
The mushers also carry "Beads of Courage" in their sleds. The Musher did a very big write up on Beads of Courage in her 2012 FAQ, so go here and read all about them.
After the Musher Meeting, we had our Meet and Greet at the Fancy Moose Lounge at the Millennium... but that's another bloggity blog post.
