An Intruder...

I had just come up to the house this morning after shoveling the yard and was adding water to the coffee maker when the dog yard erupted into full-scale panic mode. Dogs were shrieking at the top of their lungs, Todd's feet were barely touching the ground as he ran excited laps around his stakeout, and Cricket was heading over in full guard-dog mode.

As I was grabbing for shoes I could see that the epicenter of the eruption was down by X and Wolvie. I could see both of them moving through the trees (there are a number of big trees in front of them - great for shade, but they do somewhat obstruct the view of the yard from the house), so I figured the problem was something in the yard that shouldn't be rather than a dog fight or some such thing.

With visions of all the critters we have caught on the game cam in the last few days - and the ones I suspect we haven't yet caught - I went flying down into the yard, ready to protect my family at all costs.

Cricket had, of course, beat me down to the dogs and was now sniffing around with a disgusted look on her face.

"Cricket, what is it??" I asked as she pushed by me on her way back to the house. X, Wolvie, Neo and their neighbours were still yelling.

"X, what is it???"

"RIGHT THERE!!!!", he yelled at me. "ARE YOU BLIND????"

And then I saw it. Indeed a creature the game cam had yet to capture....

....probably because it is so damn small.

*sigh*

I better not have spilled coffee grounds in my rush out the door.....

one of the worst sounds our dogs ever made was for an intruder of the hard-shelled variety. A big turtle had made its way into our yard from across the road and the swampy and woods and wetlands. Maybe Huskies just despise amphibian types.

The dogs just wanted to see how fast mama could run and help her get the 'ol ticker a pumping. :)

had a monster mama Snapping Turtle in the yard yesterday the dogs just looked at it and went about their business, i went to check on them and ms Turtle turned and faced me and then started to charge me... i took off... she then went on her way... last year had a ruckus and looked out to see a box turtle just out of reach of their chain and they went bonkers. guess they know who to mess with and who not to:)

Round these parts, spring is toad and frog season. Our furballs just snarf them up and then spend the day puking...given the weird chemicals in frogs, I'm guessing they're also doing a bit of tripping...ohhhhh pretty colors
Dogs, gotta love 'em

I had a friend whose dog ate a toad and got so sick they almost lost him. Last year in my back dog barn I had one live in peace. It went in Johnnys run and he just ignored it or smelled it and left it alone. Then it went in Busters a Big German Shepherd and he did nothing and then he would go in at night his dog house and sleep with Buster. In the future after my friends problem I will remove them, but I thought this toad was cute. He did not try Sara as I am sure she would of tried to eat him. Must of sensed it. The birds nest fell her hers and as I was cleaning it up I saw where she sampled three baby birds. I hate bird nests for the mess they make, If my husband had made the door I wanted I wouldn,t have any this year, but since he don,t clean up that stuff he had selective hearing like some of my sibes.
