Dog of the Day - Spider

Tumnatki's Ms Muffet of NWapiti
DOB - September 22, 2003
Sire - Tumnatki's Comet
Dam - NorthWapiti's KitKat
Breeder - Karen Yeargain, Tumnatki Siberians

Nicknames - Spidey, Spidey Dog, Spidey Pants

Spidey is a finisher of many races - not Iditarod though, as she was dropped from the '08 race in Elim. She is a key, speed setting leader for us - and one of Mark's favorite front end dogs!
She is also cute as a button and super happy. Just a nice dog to live with!

I suppose I need to explain her registered name. When Karen Y told me she wanted to name this litter with a 'nursery rhyme' theme the first thing that popped into my head was my Dad's childhood nickname for me 'Miss Muffet'. I sure wasn't calling a dog 'Muffy', so Spider seemed like an appropriate call name.

It was a great name choice for her, as she started climbing fences at about 4 months of age. Mark studied her techique of using the corners to scale the chainlink and put 'Spider Traps' over the tops of the corners effectively stopping her escapes. To this day, she can only be trusted in the pen with the Spider Traps installed!

Spidey is sponsored by Sherri Winegardner of Lima, Ohio!!

Any chance for a picture of the "Spider Traps"? I remember reading about Mark cleverly outsmarting Spidey but can't picture how he eliminated the pawholds on the fence.

I will try and get some. They are just covers for the tops of the corners though. She can still climb the fence, she just can't get over the top.

Seems like a super dog. How come no litters from her?

We had planned to get a litter off her last year, but her heat cycle didn't cooperate.
Hopefully this year!

Glad to see that Spider is still on the main string. She was my first pick as a favorite dog from your lot. I would love to meet her but since the chances are slim, imagine what a thrill it was for me to meet her twin sister Twinka, and better yet, she lead for my team a couple of times in the spring! I also go to know her other sister Ella, another great dog. What an awesome litter. Good Luck Spider.
