A Messy Day at 'the Office'

Twenty years ago a messy day at work, which was managing a fine bone china shop - meant that I spilled a box of packing peanuts in the backroom - or gosh forbid - that someone broke a few pieces of china or glassware.

Yesterday Mark and I dragged 32 dogs through a relatively fresh 'gut pile' that a hunter left in the middle of a trail. I thought it was a moose, as it was HUGE but Mark figured that the lungs (which two of his dogs dragged quite a way down the trail) were too small and it was just bloated deer remains. Either way it was pretty stinky and messy.
Hector managed to roll in the stomach and is still covered in blood and stomach contents.

I don't quite remember if packing peanuts smell - I can assure you gut piles do!!

Is that normal hunter etiquette?
or just a disgruntled trail user?
I assume you came back a different way?
Yuck!

Yes, fairly normal. The ravens and other scavengers were already on it and any trace of the pile will be gone in a day or so.

What, no pictures?

How rude of the hunter. Is that likely a local hunter of someone from "outside"?

Way too funny.... just for the record, many packing peanuts are now made of cornstarch, so they don't smell & city dogs love them as snacks......

I'm with Mary, I was hoping for pictures

Not too terribly rude. As I said the scavengers will make short work of it and he probably didn't expect any traffic on the trail prior to that happening.
In fact, when I went through this morning, all traces of the mess, except a blood stain, were gone. Wasn't even enough left to interest the chickadees!

Mary/Penny - so sorry to disappoint you on the pictures. Though you would probably be choking on your breakfast if I taken any and included them in the blog.

You forget that I ate rabbit eyes and ants in survival school. There's very little that puts me off breakfast :)
