A Walk In The Woods

One of my favorite parts of the day is my evening walks.

What makes it most enjoyable is my walking companions....

Kara...

Bet...
Bait...

Cricket...

...and this evening, my dear friend Colleen!

We walked out to the Beaver Pond Overlook and spend some time watching ducks, geese, and a muskrat.

I tried to get the dogs to pose for some nice shots on the bench, but Bait took exception to that...

So, it was back to enjoying the scenery!

You know how you can tell dear friends from regular friends?? Dear friends are the ones that scale down ridiculously steep banks to rescue your stupid cat when it decides to go hunting muskrat with the guard dog!!!!

A Snow Day...

Yup, this is Alberta, Snow Days can pretty much happen ANY month of the year!
And it doesn't make anyone happy. When the ground isn't frozen it is just messy and miserable!!
Oh well, the moisture is still needed!

Cricket and 'friend' guarding the 'Out Trail'.

The Brits

This winter, on Richard's watch, Dew and Moses had a brief and unplanned rendezvous. We are not at all upset, we know (from experience) these things can happen running dogs!
On Sunday, we welcomed four adorable little boys to the kennel as a result of that encounter.

The pups are collectively being called 'The Brits' and Richard has been given the responsibility of naming them.

He is still working on that, but tentatively they are being called -

(from left to right)
Todd (in honor of Richard), Buck (as in Buckingham), Fletch (in honor of Richard's friend Gary who was visiting when the breeding happened) and Sherwood (as in forest).

Dew is being a great mom and the puppies seem to be doing wonderfully!!

Dogs, Dogs and More Dogs!

My web gurus, Kim and Kelly Berg of Kelim Siberians have been harassing me to get them some recent pictures of some of the young dogs. Since they are very good at harassing - and since everyone is starting to blow their coats in a huge way and will soon not be fit to be seen in public - yesterday after running dogs I took some snaps around the kennel! I thought I'd take the time to share some of my favorites with you!

Wiffie

Boo - an outstanding young dog. Perhaps one of the smoothest moving bitches I've ever seen!

Tramp in one of her rare still moments!

Boo's sister Sobe.

The very beautiful Grimmy!

Snap

Kelly

Crackle
Spidey - still dirty from her swim in the watering hole on our run!

A very pregnant Dew - her 'Dew date' is Wednesday!!

Rocky - both Mark and I are REALLY keen on this young boy! OUTSTANDING!

Utin

Bubba

Snert

Jack - I think it is impossible to get a picture of him without his mouth open. He is a VERY noisy dog!

Astro

More Jack with his mouth open - I told you he was noisy!

Turtle - who really doesn't have the prettiest head but is wonderful in all other respects! Especially in harness!
And finally, Skookum!

Siberians In The Mist

This morning was a misty, foggy, cool one in the Tawatinaw River valley - perfect for running dogs!! So that is exactly what we did!

While the dogs took a break I snuck over to the bench that overlooks the beaver pond to take a picture!

A lot different from last night's shot!

The dogs did GREAT!!! They were absolutely on fire today! I had Spider in lead with young Casey.

Stopping at the local 'watering hole'!

It looks like a mess, but without necklines things sorted themselves out almost without my help!

Billie loves the water!!

Spidey too!!

One of the coolest things about foggy mornings is the spider webs!!!!

Definitely a good time!!!

An Evening In The Valley

Last night 'The Posse' (Kara, Cricket, Bet and Bait) and I headed off into the woods for our evening walk rather then up the driveway.
We had left straight after feeding, so I didn't have my camera with me. Honestly, the woods aren't too exciting at this time of year. Other then the Pasque flowers there isn't much that is braving spring yet. The sounds of the woods were spectacular though.
The robins are back and were singing like crazy. When you get anywhere close to the river you can hear the chorus of thousands of frogs! A few geese and ducks were coming and going from the big beaver pond, quacking and honking as they did. And a couple coyotes even loaned their voices to the valley for awhile (they were quite close and that made Bait stick closer to his Mommy!)

It was so beautiful that after I got back with the dogs (and cat) I let them into the house, grabbed my camera and puttered out to the bench that overlooks the beaver pond on the ATV.
I tried to capture the sounds with the video on my camera, but the mic just wasn't sensitive enough.
I sat for a long while enjoying a first class concert and watching the warm glow of the setting sun bathe the edge of the valley before it retired for the night.

I love my corner of the world!
