New Pine Creek Church

I'm certain that I've mentioned before that I like graveyards. I don't find them sad or creepy places.

I've lamented before that the cemetery that my Dad is buried at keeps things far too neat and tidy. Mementos are not allowed (but trust me, that doesn't mean they can't be there, just that they can't be found/seen <3) and flowers taken away on a regular basis - but cemeteries in the country are different. Tombstones up this way have flowers and other 'special' items. Often there are special planting, carefully tended to. It all speaks to me of love and people not forgotten.

So today while biking when I came across the New Pine Creek church with it's little cemetery out back I decided it would be a great place to take a break.

I lay in the grass for awhile and watched fluffy white clouds drift by.

Okay, maybe I'm not being totally honest here - I lay in the grass for a bit after a very unceremonious arrival that involved me collapsing in a heap in the grass after I accidentally 'reclipped' into my clipless pedals as I was just about to dismount - but the grass was soft and the clouds were fluffy!!!

This tidy little church and yard actually has a cemetery map. That's kind of cool!

Through the church window I could see that the church itself had some lovely stained glass windows.

I love stained glass so headed over to the door to see if I could get a better look, figuring on being disappointed. I must have forgotten I live in northern Alberta. The door was unlocked and the inside of the church was as neat and organized as the outside.

I love living in a place where a church can be left open and unattended for all to enjoy.

It is a priviledge to live in such a place. I grew up in the rural southern part of the U.S. The churches were left open, and the graveyards did not have restrictions. Sadly that is no longer the case.

So fortunate that you do live in a place like this. Glad you can appreciate it. i would have enjoyed that little time to visit, also.

Karen, I love stained glass windows too. And sweet little churches and old graveyards. Thanks for the pictures.
