A Sneak Preview - Bet

Howdy Ho everyone, Bet your soon to be roving truck dog reporter reporting in on the finishing touches on packing for the trip to the Canadian Challenge!

Only 2 days left and the curly tails are whooping and a hollering because they know its almost time to show their prettiness and their toughness on the trail for everyone to see!





The Musher informs me that she's made one serious decision on who is going, and I bet you'll never guess who is actually going to get a spot on the truck.  No, Bait is still in jail (we haven't been able to post his bail). 

They say that reds don't run, but this red may not only get to run, but has been a hard worker and diligent curly tail in the harness, so she's getting her chance to shine at the Canadian Challenge:

Its CASEY!  Yep, Casey is getting her shot in the big leagues and is going on the truck. 

Why doesn't she look happy?

Canadian Challenge Trip Roster - Bet

Now that the plans are firming up for the trip to the Canadian Challenge, I guess you are all wondering who will be making the trip.

Well, the Musher is still trying to decide which of the curly tails are going.  It seems that all of them have been doing such a fantastic job during training that its really hard for her to make the picks for the trip.  She even told me that even as they are packing the truck she won't even know, and will feel bad for leaving some of them at home because they all deserve a chance to run.

She has revealed to me the roster of those who will be driving IN the truck (not in the back), so I wanted to share it with all of you.

First, the official announcement that wonderful Colleen will be watching over the North Wapiti curly tails who aren't going.

Cabin Fever - Year Two

You all might remember around this time last year when Richard got a case of suspected cabin fever and attempted things like this -

and this - 

I will say I was a tad concerned, but he seemed to recovery pretty well with no lasting side effects. Cricket and Bet seemed no worse for the experience either (in all honesty, they both think Richard walks on water and would tolerate MUCH worse for him). 

This year with all the training and racing Richard has been doing I figured Cabin Fever was unlikely to come looking for him. When I saw this this morning, I knew I was wrong. 

It's an ermine - and yes it is dead. Apparently, the cats killed it and brought it into the garage. Richard stole it from Bait and promptly turned it into a 'hood' (or 'bonnet', I guess) ornament for his ATV. Very disturbing. (Truthfully, it kind of reminds me of Trampie). 

Anyway, Runner thought there were better uses a dead ermine, like a 'pre run' snack

So much for the ATV mascot. 

As for Richard's case of cabin fever, Mark's an electrician. I'm thinking of using shock therapy - or maybe getting Richard to Edmonton for a cup of Timmy's coffee and a few Timbits. One of those things might snap him out of it.

The Musher, Richard, and the curly tails are still very busy training for the upcoming Canadian Challenge, and we're all very busy here helping them get ready as well.

As you probably know, mushing is expensive!  The curly tails require a lot of food, and medical stuff, and straw, and booties, and blah blah expensive things.  Plus there's that whole driving them all over to races, racing fees, and blah blah expensive other things, and lets not even mention that cursed truck.

We know that times are tough all over, and appreciate your support and encouragement, but we also realize that there are those of you who would like to support, but maybe can't afford some of the sponsorship levels... so we've found some additional levels of support that you can provide to the North Wapiti Kennels and the Pretty Sled Dogs!

We all know how ruff it is to be a retired sled dog, what with the laying on the cloud, the constant vigilance with the fire extinguisher whenever the Musher cooks, and generally looking adorable and regal.  It takes a lot out of poor Kara especially when she only has one person to give her Dentastix while the Musher and Richard are out gallivanting around with the curly tails.

Therefore, we've started the Kara Dentastix Fund to ensure that Kara gets her well deserved treat for years of faithful sled dog stuff.

Um, yeah, about that.  It seems that although the Sherpas were able to retrieve Bait from the top of a mountain when our little plan went awry, there were some spying charges filed against Bait, our camera has been confiscated as evidence, and he's languishing in lock-up... so we need some bail money.

Ya know, really... I don't think this one is needed at all, but apparently my book is a bit outdated or something (who knew sheep changed throughout the years), and the Musher really wanted to get me the new version (on Kindle) that also has sheepy sounds, and a scratch and sniff place so that I wouldn't keep identifying Big Horn Sheep as deer.  Plus, there was that sorta embarrassing thing where I did herd some deer into a paddock and let the sheep out and I told the farmer guy that the Musher would pay to replace the sheepy things... but... whatever.
